George FloydMay 25, 2020. It is a day we should never forget. On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during an arrest for allegedly using a counterfeit bill.

Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, knelt on Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes while Floyd was handcuffed, lying face down, begging for his life while repeatedly telling the officer, “I can’t breathe”. A second and third officer further restrained Floyd while a fourth prevented bystanders from intervening. During the final three minutes, Floyd was motionless and had no pulse while Chauvin ignored onlookers’ pleas to remove his knee, which he did not do until medics told him to.

I don’t care who you are. This was just plain wrong! It was murder in the 1st degree!

Was it a racist move? I’m not sure, but I seriously doubt that Derek Chauvin went to work that day thinking he was going to become the very face of racism in the United States. Maybe he was trying to show off in front of his new trainees.

I know one thing for sure… Had I been there and witnessed what was happening, I would either be dead or charged with a felony. I would have acted. I would have tried to start a riot right then and there! I could not have just stood by and watched as someone was having the very life drained from their body.

It’s easy to say what I would have done in hindsight. It’s easy for just about everybody to say what we would have done. I honestly believe I would have jumped in and acted, just like I would jump in if I saw a police officer kicking someone on the street.

We need to start coming together as a Nation. See something, say something, do something!

8 minutes and 46 seconds. I can’t even begin to imagine.
