New Donation Box

I’ve added a place where my visitors can make donations. If you look on the right side of the page, you’ll see an explanation and the donation amounts you can make.

I’ve already had someone ask why we’re taking donations… The answer is really very simple.

Denise, my wife, Amber and Brittany (My daughters) have always had a heart for helping people. It’s the main reason I’m a firefighter. We constantly see and hear things on the news that make our hearts heavy. It’s not enough for us to just pick up the phone and make a $25 donation to the Red Cross. While they’re a great organization, they simply can’t do everything! We’ve witnessed it first hand.

The money we receive through jimmyharmon.com goes directly to our PayPal account. Simply put, when we go to a disaster, we use the credit card for that account to fund the trip. Since I’m self-employed, it’s easy for us to just pick up and leave ASAP. It’s easy to account for because we save each receipt and PayPal gives a statement.

What Disasters Do We Go To?

Anything that becomes apparent to us. It could be down the street and it could be in Massachusetts. It doesn’t matter to us. What does matter is that we have the ability to help and we will… donations or not. I just thought it would be easier on us if we were able to get a little help. There were a couple of instances when we didn’t get to do anything because we simply didn’t have the funds to go.

Are We To Be Trusted?

I think my church can vouch that we actually do go to the places we say we’re going to. We even made a nice little video after Hurricane Katrina. I’ll see if I can get it on here. So, why the $3,500 goal? Because it will be used and replenished many time throughout the year. We may only use $1,500 at a time, but there’s always another disaster to go to. We’d probably do it full time if we could. There was nothing more gratifying than going door to door after Hurricane Katrina and handing out the most basic of necessities. Giving a toy to a child who just lost everything. Helping someone salvage what they can from a destroyed home… It’s worth it!
