Unwanted Children

One of the hardest things in the world for me is watching a news story about a child who was either neglected or murdered. It’s something I just don’t understand. Day before yesterday, I heard a story about a little boy who was not only brutally murdered, but he was beaten for several days before it happened.

So who killed him? It was his step father. The mother watched. Apparently, the step father wanted to make it harder for investigators to identify the body (I suppose he knew the body would be discovered), so he decided to bash the little boys teeth. He also did some other beating of the child and this was all done with a hammer!

It’s hard enough to imagine how someone could do this, but to imagine the mother just watching and doing nothing is just as hard! Was she scared he was going to do something to her too? Was she helping? I couldn’t finish the story, so I don’t know for sure.

This isn’t the only story like this in recent years. It seems like every week there’s a story about a parent who’s decided they just plain don’t want their children anymore.

Does it not make more sense to just turn the kids over to the welfare department in your respective state? Do we have laws that prevent or encourage the murdering of children? It seems to me that I heard about a law that says if you don’t want your baby within 30 days, you can simply take him/her back to the hospital without penalty.

What about when a parent (For whatever reason) decides they don’t want their 5 year old? Can they take the child somewhere? What about a 15 year old?

In my humble opinion, I think any child, regardless of age, should be allowed to live. I’m being specific to children right now as that’s what my story’s about, but for those of you wondering, I believe adults should be able to live as well.

If there were a law that stated you could take your child to a local agency without committing a felony, I think we’d have fewer children being murdered and abused by their own parents. I, for one, would be willing to take at least two children regardless of age, gender or ethnicity. I’m not trying to make a public statement by saying that, I just have a heart for children and someone has to do something about it.

It may not be the best solution, but for those of you who’ve decided that you don’t want your children anymore, all you have to do is trash your house and make a call to social services. They’ll come to your house and see what a mess it is and hopefully take your child. That way the child lives and you’re just a crummy parent! A coward really, but at least the child lives.

Don’t get me wrong, there are situations when a child should have to leave the home and the parents are doing everything they can to provide, but can’t. We’re facing some of the hardest economical times we’ve seen in years and it hasn’t been easy to get the work we need.

I could go on and on about this, but at some point I have to end it. The bottom line is that we need laws to help protect the children. Sure, we have laws, but obviously they aren’t working very well. What can we do to make a change? What can we do to help protect one of our country’s most valuable assets?
